About Jennifer Bruce

Jennifer is an international award winning photojournalist and videographer based in London, UK and Cape Town, South Africa. With over 10 years experience in news and the non profit sector Jennifer has focused her skills on humanitarian and environmental advocacy in Africa. Dedicated and passionate about visual storytelling Jennifer has travelled across the world covering disaster relief and some of the most urgent social issues of our time. Jennifer has produced stories in: South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, Cameroon, UK, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Background: Born in England Jennifer moved to Cape Town, South Africa with her family in the 80’s where she finished her schooling and went on to study art direction and design at the Red and Yellow School of Advertising. After a year spent living in Sydney, Australia Jennifer returned to South Africa settling in Johannesburg where in 2006 she completed the inaugural Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course at The Market Photo Workshop, that same year Jennifer began an internship at The Star newspaper quickly securing a permanent post as photojournalist. Over a 6 year period Jennifer won numerous local and international photojournalism awards for the news features she produced while at the South African daily newspaper. At the beginning of 2012 Jennifer started a new chapter as a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer. A combination of dogged curiosity and a carefully cultivated network of contacts ensure that Jennifer continues to produce in-depth news features as well as commissioned projects.
